It is Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
